Kyrgyzstan offers exceptional and authentic culture. With traditions inherited from nomads, the Kyrgyz people know how to surprise travelers.

Felt lies at the heart of Kyrgyz culture: insulating and resilient, it has always served to build the yurts, clothing, and decorations of nomads. Great Kyrgyz designers now craft it into modern objects and garments, showcased internationally. Made entirely through natural processes, Kyrgyz felt is a way of life that persists.

During your stay in Kyrgyzstan, you can visit a traditional felt-making workshop (notably in Kochkor or Bokonbayevo) and learn to craft felt from sheep's wool, creating a small rug of your own. This skill, passed down from mother to daughter, is entirely handmade and of exceptional quality. This art is moreover inscribed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage!

From wool collection to carpet patterns, Kyrgyz women will share all the secrets of felt and carpet making with you. You can even try your hand at crafting a small rug yourself.

Visiting a felt workshop is also an opportunity to acquire some artisanal souvenirs and contribute to local development. Best of both worlds!
