Naryn is a small town of approximately 53,000 inhabitants located nearly 200 km from Bishkek. It takes its name from the Naryn River, the main tributary of the Syr Darya River, near which it stands. The name is also said to derive from the Mongolian word Naryn, meaning "sunny".

Naryn is a magnificent region shaped by towering mountains, steppes, and vast verdant grasslands, all set beneath crystalline skies. The small town, while lacking major tourist attractions in its own right, makes an excellent stopover to rest and recharge before continuing your Kyrgyz adventure.

This charming settlement, surrounded by mountains and traversed by the Naryn River, welcomes visitors with genuine warmth. Close to Son Koul Lake, Kel Suu Lake, and Tach Rabat, Naryn serves as an ideal exploration base and offers a welcome respite after horseback trekking expeditions. You can discover the town at a leisurely pace, strolling along the riverbanks and engaging with locals. Take the opportunity to sample local restaurants and cuisine, notably beshbarmak. A visit to the Regional Museum is worthwhile, showcasing artifacts from nomadic life. The town's other notable landmark is the mosque, located 2.5 km from the center.

Naryn is the perfect town from which to discover the region's natural wealth. With expansive lakes, dramatic valleys, and a national park, the area boasts remarkable resources. It is the last city before venturing into southern Kyrgyzstan—a wild and remote region.
