Ala-Too Today
Ala-Too is a mountain range within the Tian Shan system extending from the Talas region in the west to the Boom Gorge in the east. Its highest peak, Semenov Peak, rises to 4,875 meters, making it a major draw for mountaineers worldwide.
Ala-Too boasts remarkably varied terrain featuring rocky gorges, lush verdant valleys, turquoise alpine lakes, snow-crowned summits, pine forests, and glaciers. A national park has been established to preserve this wild landscape, accessible via trails ranging from gentle to challenging.
Located just 40 km north of Kyrgyzstan's capital, Ala-Archa National Park sprawls across more than 2,200 hectares and caters to both casual trekkers and seasoned alpinists alike. Here you'll encounter the imposing heights of Corona Peak (4,860 meters) and Adygene Peak (4,393 meters). A base camp positioned along the glacier route allows for quick access to the ice fields.
The Ala-Too mountain range is equally renowned for its high-altitude lakes. Head to Kel-Tor Lake at 2,700 meters elevation, nestled in a valley bearing the same name. The views are simply breathtaking—turquoise waters cradled by majestic mountain chains. Spruce forests fringing the western shore of Kel-Tor Lake enhance the already spectacular scenery.
Come spring, the Ala-Too valleys transform into a riot of wildflowers, their vibrant colors contrasting beautifully against the snow-dusted peaks. The panorama is nothing short of paradisiacal, transporting visitors to another world.
