Horse Trekking in Kyrgyzstan

·

"With your father you know the people, with your horse you know the land"

Meet the last semi-nomadic peoples of the region whose temperament and sense of hospitality have been forged by extreme living conditions. Be amazed by the Kyrgyz horse, swift, hardy and living in semi-freedom like Spirit, the Stallion of the Plains.

Our agency Kyrgyz' What ? has designed for you a circuit along the Kyrgyz trails visiting the country's unmissable highlights. Docile, the Kyrgyz horse knows how to put the beginner rider at ease. At the horse's rhythm, you'll discover stunning landscapes.

Settle in comfortably, close your eyes and let us whisk you away on a fantastic ride through a forest of firs. Shortly after, we begin the ascent to the jailoo, vast high-altitude meadows. Once we've trotted across a few rivers and streams, passed through a canyon with red rocks echoing beneath hooves accustomed to the rugged mountain terrain… the first yurts appear. Around a bend in the river, Kyrgyz herders watch over an immense herd of yaks while women dressed in colorful fabrics go about kitchen work preparing beshbarmak (the region's typical dish made with mutton and pasta). To celebrate our arrival, the tribe's men offer koumiss (an alcoholic drink made from fermented mare's milk). With our bellies full, it's time to meet Morpheus, because tomorrow we'll ride again toward Naryn and its passes at over 3000 meters elevation. From these mountain heights, the view is magnificent and you can't help but think of the legendary Silk Road with its caravans laden with treasures.
